Bryce is a native Californian and comes from a long tradition of builders. His great grandfather, alive until he was 14, was a Danish emigrant carpenter and went on to be a job supervisor for several famous buildings in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. His grandfather was a life long union carpenter. Bryce started getting his hands dirty on construction sites as early as 14 years of age, mixing mortar for his mason step-father.
After graduating from the Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo architecture program in 1989, and having worked as a carpenter both part and full time during school to help support himself, Bryce obtained his general contractor's license in 1990 and started his own Design/Build firm, Azimuth Design & Construction. After 13 years specializing in residential projects of all types and sizes, and managing to work part-time for other architects as well to fulfill experience requirements, Bryce obtained his architect's license in 2002 and began phasing out of the building end of the business to move into being a full time architect.
Bryce is now a LEED Accredited Professional. In a world with increasing amounts of "green wash" LEED Accreditation represents tested knowledge of sustainable practices as well as a demonstrated ability to shepherd a project through LEED Certification. Bryce was designing to sustainable principles before LEED even existed. If you're looking for true depth of knowledge and solid guidance, both with the touch California conservation process and with "Green" design in general, Bryce can provide that.
Bryce has had projects published in local design magazines, and won local awards for his designs. He has also moved into small scale commercial projects, especially restaurant and other food service projects for the new learning experiences and design variety they provide. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects. The Craftsman, Southwestern and Contemporary designs shown here are just the tip of the ice
Bryce has also had the good fortune of being able to travel all over the world, experiencing first-hand some of the great architecture of the world and employs these experiences in his design and work ethic. For more on Bryce, please visit his website Bryce Engstrom Architecture
